Meet the author
Carlos Romero Ortega was born in the city of Valencia, Venezuela, a small city located approximately 100 miles west of the nation’s capital. From a very young age, he developed a deep passion for sports, music, and the arts in general.
He entered the emerging world of computing at an early age, beginning his career as an IBM card punch operator before advancing to become a systems programmer. As a true autodidact, he pursued knowledge independently at a time when neither his country nor much of the world offered formal university degrees specifically dedicated to computer science.
When the opportunity finally arose, he enrolled in a technical program focused on computer sciences and graduated with honors in 1983, earning an Associate Degree in Computer Science.
Driven by strong ambition and an entrepreneurial spirit, he left private employment in 1991 to establish his own company. From that moment on, he became a consultant and systems advisor to numerous companies across various sectors throughout the country.
Although highly experienced in administrative systems development, not holding a university degree in business initially created challenges when dealing with senior administrative and financial professionals among his major clients. Determined to strengthen his professional foundation, he returned to academia and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems—an achievement that, while not strictly necessary for his expertise, provided the formal credential and professional confidence he sought.
Over the course of his career, he has produced, analyzed, designed, developed, and commercialized more than 60 administrative systems across multiple industries. These systems were built using a wide range of programming languages, tailored to the specific needs of his clients.
Due to circumstances beyond his control, he made the difficult decision to leave his country and immigrated to the United States, where he is now a citizen. An active and bold thinker, he eventually expanded his intellectual pursuits into reading and writing, evolving into an essayist, short story writer, and novelist. He has published more than seven books, including two novels, numerous short stories, and hundreds of essays in both Spanish and English.
